Measuring tips for an accurate Indian size
Indian size charts are measured entirely in centimetres, in 5 cm band steps. Measure over a thin, unpadded bra or bare skin, keeping the tape snug but not tight.
Most Indian retailers, including Zivame, Jockey, and Clovia, use a similar band-and-cup logic to this calculator: your underbust measurement sets the band, and how much your bust measures beyond that sets the cup letter. Where Indian sizing gets confusing is that the ladder runs A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, H rather than stopping at a plain D or E, and there's occasionally a centimetre or two of gap between one cup and the next - which is why this calculator rounds up to the safer fit when your measurement lands in that gap. If your two numbers don't land you in a comfortable size once you try it on, it's worth reading up on how fit shifts across brands, since the same size label rarely feels identical everywhere.
Indian band and cup size chart
This is the underbust range behind each Indian band size, matching the calculator above.
| Band size | Underbust (cm) |
|---|---|
| 28 | 59-62 |
| 30 | 63-67 |
| 32 | 68-72 |
| 34 | 73-77 |
| 36 | 78-82 |
| 38 | 83-87 |
| 40 | 88-92 |
And here is the cup ladder for a 34 band specifically, as an example of how the gaps between letters can vary: the same pattern applies at other band sizes, just shifted up or down.
| Bust (cm) | Cup letter |
|---|---|
| 87-89 | A |
| 89-91 | B |
| 91-93 | C |
| 93-96 | D |
| 97-100 | DD |
| 101-104 | E |
| 105-108 | F |
Notice the gap between 93-96 (D) and 97-100 (DD) - if your bust measurement falls right in that gap, round up to DD for the safer fit. Shopping an international brand instead? See the full country conversion guide.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my band size?
Wrap a soft tape measure snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust, keeping it level and parallel to the floor. Read the number during a normal breath.
How do I measure my bust size?
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, across the nipple line, without pulling it tight.
Why do Indian bra sizes sometimes skip a number?
Indian size charts follow even band numbers (28, 30, 32...) in 5 cm steps, and some cup columns have a small gap between them. If your measurement lands in that gap, we round up to the next cup - the safer fit for comfort.
Is Indian bra sizing the same as UK or US sizing?
Very close. Indian charts use the same band numbers as the UK and US, and the cup ladder matches through a D cup. Above D, Indian brands generally follow the UK convention (DD, E, F) rather than the US convention (DD, DDD, G), so a UK-style chart is the closer match once you're past a D cup.
Do Zivame, Jockey, and other Indian brands size the same way?
They use the same band-and-cup logic, but the fit itself still varies by brand, wire shape, and fabric - the same 34C can sit differently depending on where you buy it. Treat your calculated size as the size to start trying on, not the one to buy blind in every brand.
